About Tart

Previously, Tart was a shabby kebab shop, seriously in need of some tlc. A huge structural refurbishment took a year to complete and we finally opened the bar in December 2007.

Tart is owned by Delia Elliott and Jackie Dacosta. For over 6 years we have run a small successful business together and this gave us the confidence to take on Tart. We were amused to hear that the pavements outside Tart were the regular haunt of ‘ladies of the night’ and we loved the fact that the word Tart can be both naughty and nice!

The building has been owned by St. Selpuchre’s Charity since before 1600. The original charity boards in the rear vestry room were painstakingly restored by English Heritage and hint at the abject poverty the charity sought to help. The money was given to the poor for hundreds of years in our lovely vestry room. One of the boards tells of a donation to be given to “the poorest decayed housekeepers, not beggars or such” – we can only guess about these poor wretched women.

Our inspiration for Tart is based on years of ‘research’ in bars all over the world! We wanted a bar to feel comfortable enough for a woman to sit in alone, a glamorous setting serving great drinks, and a nice atmosphere. We are both big rum fans and Jackie is slowly working her way through a few of the more rare and unusual bottles that we've found so that we might offer you a great and original selection. We are always grateful for advice and constructive input so please let us know if you think we can improve something.

And don't forget our famous TARTINIS! They are constantly being updated and are sure to be an enjoyable and memorable part of your visit to Tart.

We hope you love our little bar as much as we do!
